Welcome Back TES Students! We have a great 2014-2015 year ahead.

Hi Everyone,

I’m excited to have everyone return to school on Wed. August 27th. For those new to TES, let me tell you a few things about our school library and technology program.

Welcome to the Thetford Elementary School Library.  My name is Mary Wunderlich and I am the Thetford Elementary School Librarian and Technology Coordinator. I look forward to sharing my love of reading and technology with each TES student.

Library Hours:
The library is open 8:30-3:15 pm, Monday-Friday.

Students in grades K-6th are scheduled 1 library class per week. During library classes students are able to borrow library books, hear books read aloud to them, participate in a library skills lesson and/or receive technology lessons in our computer lab or with school ipads.

Library Procedures:
Kindergarten students are allowed 1 library book per week. Students in Kindergarten will need to return their books the following week on or before their scheduled library day. Classroom teachers will provide a library return basket in the classroom to help collect books throughout the week to be returned on scheduled library days.

Students in 1st grade are allowed 1 book per week. During the year, once the task of returning books becomes easier for them, the students may be allowed 2 books per week.

Students in grades 2nd-6th are allowed 2 books for 2 weeks. Students are allowed to return a book, or both books, within a week’s time but at no time may they have more than 2 TES books out. Both books need to be returned in order for students to get new books.

Below is a brief description of some of the library programs and events you may hear your child mention:

Red Clover Books
The Red Clover Award promotes the reading and discussion of the best of contemporary picture books in nearly all of Vermont’s elementary schools.

The Red Clover Award is co-sponsored by the Vermont Center for the Book / Mother Goose Programs and the Vermont Departments of Education and Libraries.

DCF Reading Program
First given in 1957, the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Book Award has honored quality literature for children for over 50 years.  Each spring, a committee of eight carefully selects 30 books to comprise the DCF Master List.  After reading at least 5 books from the list, students then vote for their favorite titles the following spring.  The winning author is invited to visit Vermont to speak with children about the experience of writing fine children’s literature.

School Book Fairs:

Our school holds 1 or 2  book fairs a year. The fall book fair is organized by the TES PTO.  A Spring book fair is scheduled depending on the availability of a 2nd vendor (Book Fair by Bookends). Proceeds from the fall book fair help fund PTO projects. The Spring book fair helps fund book give-away programs and extra materials for the library.
