Hi TES Library Community,

I’m sure many of you are learning about the countless online resources available to help students learn while away from school. TES teachers have put time and effort into building a TES Remote Learning site for your children. Many of these web resources, lessons, and activities are merely suggestions. Please, think about how much time your child spends online or inside doing schoolwork. Set aside at least one “period” every day for pleasure reading, which has numerous lifelong benefits. Our Thetford libraries have an easy systems for downloading Audio and eBooks remotely.

“The key is not to worry about your child mirroring the lessons of school. Instead, aim to feed her interest in and general knowledge about whatever topics she’s studying. When school resumes, the most important thing will be that she continued to engage with the concepts. And, hopefully, you’ve helped foster her love of learning along the way.” –

Schools Are Closing for Coronavirus. Now What? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/parenting/coronavirus-schools-lessons.html

Your child’s home environment should help motivate your child to learn. It is still unclear how long schools could remain closed, so the most important lesson children can learn from being away from school is to take on new responsibilities at home and take ownership of their own learning.  Give them a few household tasks, make a daily schedule,  create some weekly goals together with deadlines; this will motivate them to take initiative for their learning and future.

Hi Everyone!

It’s already Friday! I hope you and your family are adjusting to all the recent changes. I have created a schedule for myself that includes school work, outdoor time, and rest.  I hope you have too!

Library activities and lessons for you to do while we are away from school will be posted weekly on the TES Remote Learning Site

On  Monday, March 23, you will find a more complete list of Library activities and lessons.

In the meantime, I encourage you to:

  • Read, read, read!
  • Play board and card games (especially ones that have you counting or adding).
  • Get outside and get moving. Enjoy the fresh spring air and sunshine!
  • Color, draw, create, and build.
  • Write letters/cards to friends, family, or even your teachers.
  • Spend time with your family.

I miss all of you and will continue to look for ways to connect with you each week!

Mary and Sir Earl
