This book series is for young readers covering subjects like racism, divorce, bullying, anxiety, belonging, creativity, feminism, failure, the list goes on. Each book takes a complex subject and talks about them in an accessible and age-appropriate way. These books will be a invaluable resource for all of our TES staff and students. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Sequoia by Tony Johnston

3rd/4th grade students, TES Tree Stewards, really enjoyed hearing Tony Johnston‘s picture book, Sequoia. The book is a poem written in third person narration, about Sequoia, a giant and ancient tree and how he lives through the year. A follow-up activity to the book had students look for life in the woods. Using local writer Elise Tillinghast’s article from Northern Woodlands’, March: Week Four, students searched for Thaw circles, Red-winged blackbirds, Forked fungus beetle larva, and other early signs of spring!
