Winter Reading

Library classes have been reading books about various winter holidays and traditions from around the world. We learned about inspiring examples of community, friendship, respect, and love around the world, and what “true” community means.
Students  enjoyed reading Wolf in the Snow by Matt Cordell, the story of a lost wolf pup found in a blizzard by a little girl. Matt Cordell’s book teaches the importance of kindness and helping when needed. The winter illustrations are beautiful and look much like the first snow did in our forest classrooms. We are looking forward to more snowfall in the new year and more library classes outdoors!
We are also learning about children’s literature awards, such as: The Newbery Medal, Caldecott Medal, Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award, and Pura BelprĂ© Illustrator Award and more. We have learned what each award represents and who created the award, which winning titles are in our Thetford libraries, and in what year the awards began. There are dozens of children’s literature awards. Additional information on Children’s Literature awards can be found on Reading Rockets website: Award Winners
